People always say that small things make bigger difference. Well ! I have heard about ROP and it was just another disease which I learnt in my ocular diseases class. But when I started my fellowship, I was asked to prescribe glasses for a 8 months old baby and was perplexed by the situation. From there I started to learn, it was not that easy task and how important it is to help those babies. The happiness on their parents' face when those babies identify objects, the smile on babies faces when they try to grab those objects, everything started feeling different all of a sudden. All these things helped me to grow.
Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is mostly seen in babies who are premature born. You should be really careful in examining these babies. It must be done within 30 days of life even if the child is in the NICU.The earlier you get a eye examination done, the earlier the baby receives the light to life. I also feel grateful to have worked with few of the phenomenal people in this field who literally has made a huge difference in those babies' life. Also thankful to those who taught me the importance of gift to sight !
